Our History Our History

It was 1959 when, thanks to Mr. Giovanni Pasqualotto, SAFAS Steel Foundry was established. Still today the family controls what has become one among the most important steel casting manufacturers, whose products are required and appreciated all over the world.
A brand with more than 50 years’ history, synonymous of reliability, efficiency and quality excellence; characteristics world-wide recognized..

THE ORIGINS
SAFAS history begins in 1959 with the production of ingots for the manufacture of reinforced concrete rods. The production area is initially of 5,000 square meters with 10 employees.

THE SIXTIES
In the 60's, the production of ingots, alongside with that of castings, cast according to pattern with a production increase from 10 to 50/60 tons month. Subsequently the area of the plant was expanded to 25.000 sq.m., 2.000 of which covered, the employees increase to 100 units and the rolling mill comes into operation: the production of ingots for rod iron is being changed into special steel ingots for forging.
The expansion is completed with the construction of the new directional/administrative/technical building and the introduction of chemical laboratories "wet method" and technological laboratories with facilities for mechanical tests and micrographies.

THE SEVENTIES
The decade begins with the coming into operation of the new 12 t. furnace. In the course of these years, the development continues steady, supported by considerable investments in resources to innovate the range and improve the quality of the products.
All departments are expanded and developed while moulding is definitely oriented towards the manufacturing of special steel castings for special uses. The Quality Guarantee System (QGS) is introduced with the draft of the relevant Manual.
In 1979, to strengthen its presence in the core business, GSA Foundry was founded with two new induction furnaces of 300 and 500 kg respectively.
At the same time, as integral part of the production chain, AMS Workshop was born, where castings can be completed by machining.
At the end of the decade the production exceeds 10,000 tons.

THE EIGHTIES
The eighties mark the definitive success of the steel foundry on the international scene.
SAFAS demonstrates to fully meet the quality requirements dictated by the standards of several countries. To keep this position, already in 1980, the second edition of the Manual of the Quality Guarantee System is worked out, with a further alignment with the international guidelines and the subscription to Asme, Electricité de France, UNI, DIN and ASTM operationalized for the updating of standards and codes.
At the same time SAFAS provides itself with all standards issued by official Bodies, such as Asme - TÜV - R.I.Na. - ANSI - AFNOR concerning their field of interest.
In 1988, the development plan is completed with the acquisition of Pasubio Cast Iron Foundry, engaged in the production of special cast irons. At the end of the eighties the total number of employees exceeds 300 units while the covered surface is 26,500 sq.m.
over a total area of 97,200 sq.m.

THE NINETIES
SAFAS, in December 1994, comes into possession of the qualification according to ISO 9002 released by IGQ (Quality Guarantee Institute). The knowledge and the possession of such standards enable a rapid assessment of the requirements relating to the product to supply.

THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND
In 2004, with the acquisition of Safas Tunis, located in Tunisia, Safas Group becomes international and extends its range of castings to the specific cement factory market.
In 2009, year of the fiftieth anniversary of the company's foundation, a new foundry in Tavernelle plant is inaugurated, enabling Safas to increase its production capacity .
